Spotify Wrapped celebrated this by revealing the top artists, albums, songs, and podcasts that defined how more than 381 million people around the world streamed and discovered audio during a year that was very different.
Second time in a row most-streamed artist
From top to bottom; For the second time in a row, Bad Bunny has reached the number one spot in the list of most-streamed artists on Spotify. He has done this even without releasing an album this year! He is followed by singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, K-pop group BTS, hip-hop artist Drake and finally Justin Bieber who has released an album with many different artists all over the world.
The top song of 2021
The best song of 2021 Worldwide is “drivers license” by Olivia Rodrigo. In total, it has achieved over 1.1 billion streams. With that, she is followed by Lil Nas X with “Montero”. Further down the list is Kid LARIOI for the first time with his collaboration with Justin Bieber. With the song “STAY”, they have reached the third place in 2021. In fourth place is once again Olivia Rodrigo with “Good 4 u”. Finally, the fifth most-streamed song of 2021 is “Levitating” by Dua Lipa featuring DaBaby.
Olivia returns to one of the lists in the top album category. Her debut album “SOUR” is at number one on the list. She is followed by Dua Lipa with the album “Future Nostalgia” In third and fourth place are Justin Bieber with “Justice” and Ed Sheeran with “=”. In fifth place is Doja Cat with “Planet Her”.
Number-one streamed podcast
The Joe Rogan Experience has completed its first year as a Spotify Exclusive. Worldwide, it has remained the number one Spotify podcast. This podcast is followed by another Spotify Exclusive podcast namely: “Call Her Daddy” by Alex Cooper. The other popular podcasts in the list are Crime Junkie, TED Talks Daily, and The Daily.
Spotify made a list based on nostalgia. Many fans rediscovered their favorite music from the past. In addition, old music was played more by new generations. The most popular nostalgic albums were: Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, Nevermind by Nirvana, Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park, Appetite for Destruction by Guns N’ Roses and finally The Beatles by The Beatles.
